What to think about during meditation

For those who are just beginning to meditate, the question often arises: what should you think about during meditation? It should be noted immediately, for practice, you do not need to be able to clean the brain completely. We will tell you what to do so that nothing interferes with meditation.

What is important to remember?

In ancient times, many religious leaders believed that the voices we hear when we think are the whispers of the gods. Our contemporaries will without a shadow of a doubt call such a statement madness. But isn’t it crazy to call these voices your own?

The Buddha noted that human perception is conditioned by 6 senses, the sixth is thought. Indeed, what is the difference between how the senses and the mind perceive information? Our thoughts appear in the mind out of nowhere. And the mind, with which we mistakenly identify our “I”, resembles a thin screen that separates the inner world of a person from the outer.

When you start practicing, it is important to understand that your thoughts do not belong to you. Therefore, they should not become an obstacle to awareness.

Useful tips

Forget everything you know about meditation techniques and turn your attention during practice to what you are thinking about and how you are thinking:

  • Try to see in each thought the point from which the next one comes. As soon as you pay attention to what you are thinking, the rapid process of thinking will immediately calm down.
  • Try to catch the thought as it appears, hold it in your mind, and let it go.
  • Try to write down everything you think about for 10 minutes. Of course, this is not meditation, but such exercises help to be aware of the movements of your mind and separate your “I1” from them.
  • Just be aware of what you are thinking, without getting involved in the process of thinking. Imagine that thoughts are clouds, watch as they float from one end of the mind to the other, but do not try to cling to them or hold them when they begin to disappear.

In time, you will be able to view thoughts as transitory, and you will be able to enter the space of pure awareness. At first, take everything for granted. Meditation is not a “white screen”, it is normal to think during practice. Just take the position of an observer, meditate regularly-and everything will work out.
